Fall colors, I cannot believe it is almost over.

As advanced intensive comes to a close, I am getting ready to head back to Cincinnati, Ohio to see all of my friends, and family. I cannot wait to see everyone, but I am remorseful that I will not be surrounded by the mountains. I will return to Missoula sometime in the future because it is too great here. I love the lifestyle, people, and scenery.

Once I get back home I will be starting back school, at Cincinnati State Technical Community College. I started to get my associates in marketing management before I left for RMSP, and the way the college is structured it allowed me to follow my dream and come to Missoula for my photography. I will only be attending late fall term, because at the end of January I will be moving to North Carolina to begin a wedding photography business with two of my friends that I met at RMSP. I will then finish up my degree in marketing in NC, Those are my plans Lord willing.

So, I have been driving around town here in Missoula trying to take a few photos so I can always remember what an awesome place this is.

I have been photographing for over 7 years. This past summer I decided it was time for me to follow my passion for photography. I moved out of Cincinnati, Ohio to Missoula, Montana to attend the Rocky Mountain School of Photography. This was by far the greatest decision of my entire life! Although the school was very intense I learned so much, and I continue to learn something new about this great passion of mine everyday. The school was a 6 month long program that was broken up into 3 sections. The first part was called Summer Intensive, this is were I learned the most about the technical side of photography. The second part of this program was called pro-studies. This was a major growing point in my photographic career. This part was 3 weeks of immersion in one subject of photography per week. I choose to immerse myself in: week 1- The Business of Outdoor Photography, week 2 - Documentary, and week 3- The Business of Wedding Photography. After the 3 intense weeks of the pro-studies I moved to the final phase of the program, Advanced Intensive. I will talk more about AI later on after I explain about the pro-studies.

The first week of the pro-studies was absolutely phenomenal, if there was a course designed especially for my two loves in this life, outdoor photography and business, this was it. The course was taught by a good friend of mine Darrel GulinDarrel is a Canon Explorer of Light and the president of the North American Nature Photographers Association (NANPA). I will share with you some of the Images that I took during this course below. All in all I learned so much about the business side of photography and more about the outdoor/stock aspect of selling my images. I recommend every single photographer to check out anything that Darrel is apart of it will be well worth your time!

The second week was just a huge growth period for me because I went into it with an open mind. Documentary did not seem to interesting to me at first. Then I met Ed Kashi. Ed was our instructor for the course. He is an incredible person who is so passionate about what he does that a little bit of his inspiration rubbed off on me and each and every student that took this course. This was such a large growth for me photographically because of the phenomenal critiques that Ed would give us. He focused on composition and explained why we did something that was wrong and how we could better it next time. I will never look at another photo the same again, thank you Ed!!

The final week of the pro-studies courses was by far one of the greatest learning experiences of my entire life! Steve and Sophie Winslow were our great instructors. After taking this course I know exactly how to shoot a wedding for someone, and I understand its all about relationships, and helping the couple have one of the greatest experiences of their life! My job is to preserve these great memories so the couple can share them with everyone who is special in their life with pride in the beautiful images that I could bless them with forever. I will share some of the images from this course below.

The final stage of my journey to Missoula was Advanced Intensive. This was by far the greatest decision of all. Some people that started off with summer intensive only stayed for pro-studies, but some of the most valuable information about making a living at photography came from the wonderful instructors in advanced intensive. During advanced intensive we learned all about the business side of photography. We were so blessed to meet one on one with some of the leading photographic business consultants to date, so we they could help us plan our futures as professional photographers. I am so glad that I attended this portion of the Rocky Mountain School of Photography.

I will never be able to fully thank the team at RMSP for all of their hard work, and attention to detail for one of the greatest summers of my entire life!

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Below are a sample of some of the photos that I took during my great experience at RMSP I hope that they inspire you as much as they do me! For more of my photos please visit my website: www.kevinkraftphotography.com
